But for those lucky enough to have invested in an EV, investing in a slow 3kW charger feels inadequate.<\/p><p>However, a 3kW charger offers compatibility with nearly every home without any electrical modifications. On basic models, you will always be charging when the device is plugged in: simple but inflexible.<\/p><p>On the other hand, smart models connect to your home WiFi network and feature scheduling, so you can set up charging for cheaper electric rates overnight. The smart models are priced \u00a3150 to \u00a3300 more than conventional versions up front but typically pay for themselves in energy savings within a year.<\/p><p>Installation is tricky but is very easy for experienced EV charger installers. Most are limited to 7kW or 11kW for AC charging, so you wouldn\u2019t gain anything.<\/p><p>However, there are certain scenarios where 22kW is useful, such as for occasional rapid charging of a taxi that requires a fast turnaround between shifts, or where you may already have a three-phase supply due to other reasons (some homes in rural locations and older properties do). For everyone else, it&#8217;s overkill.<\/p><p>The equipment itself is priced at \u00a3700 to \u00a31,200, and installation costs between \u00a32,200 and \u00a35,000+, which included the necessary electrical upgrades.
